The VMS1 provides unattended around-the-clock operation, constantly gathering and analyzing vibration data from up to 128 channels of accelerometers. Spectral analysis is performed on each measurement to determine its vibration spectrum.

Each of the vibration spectra are then compared with vibration acceptability thresholds. These thresholds are separately adjustable for each channel, allowing the engineer to enter criteria appropriate for each location.

Threshold exceedance at any channel is immediately detected, resulting in disk logging of the date, time, and location of the occurrence. Threshold exceedance is also indicated on the vibration status line of the VMS1 display and the vibration status indicator lights on the front panel.

The VMS1 computes statistics on all of the measured vibration spectra. Every hour the VMS1 saves to disk the minimum, maximum, mean, and mean-plus-1 standard deviation vibration spectra computed for each channel, during the previous hour.

The VMS1 produces sharp color hardcopy of these spectra with statistics computed over a time interval ranging from 1 hour to over 10 days. Plots showing the hourly history of vibration at a user-specified frequency are also easily produced. Additionally, the VMS1 plots vibration versus channel at a user-specified frequency and time. This greatly assists in locating vibration sources. The user can select vibration units of acceleration, velocity, or displacement for VMS1 data plots. The VMS1 can monitor potential critical equipment sites for weeks prior to installation, thus assuring suitable site selection.
